Mumbai to Himachal Pradesh (Mumbai – Delhi – Punjab – HP)

September 14, 2010 was a good day as any other to start our journey to one of India most beautiful State Himachal Pradesh (HP)
We caught the Rajdhani express @ 4:40 pm @ INR 1,975 (AC-2tier) reached New Delhi (NDLS) on September 15, 2010 @ 9:00 am (The train journey was extremely comfortable certainly worth the cost)
We took the metro from New Delhi @ 11:00 am reached Pragati Maidan Metro station @ 11:30 am since it took us some time to figure out which color coded track to take to get there (Delhi Metro has six lines with rainbow color codes)
We walked towards the “National Zoological Park” with our heavy bags, which was a bad idea since it took us about 1hr 20 mins to reach it felt like we were stamina training; the weather in Delhi can be very cruel.
The park was nice has a variety of wildlife, the highlight was the peacock trying to woo its mate its features were magnificent and so was its vocal cords, we spend about 3 hrs there and this time we took a rickshaw @INR 40 back to Pragati Maidan which took us about 20 mins, we wanted to go to Connaught Place (CP) but it took us a while to understand that the metro does not have a Connaught Place station it’s called as Rajiv Chawk, it took us about 15 mins to get there (4:00 – 4:15 pm) and then another 15 mins to find a KFC outlet since we needed some protein intake.
After exploring CP it was time to continue our journey towards Himachal Pradesh (HP), we took a bus from CP to Paharganj (@ INR 7) auto fare is about INR 20, the evening traffic is Delhi is intense we reached Paharganj at about 7:20 pm (about 30 mins) found a local travel agent by around 7:40 pm we were lucky since they close shop by 8:00 pm.
We were able to get tickets in Tatkal @ INR 900 (Sleeper) from New Delhi (NDLS) – 9:35 pm to Punjab (Pathankot) – Chakki Bank Railway Station – 5:04 am. Train: 2445 Uttar S Kranti.
After reaching Chakki Bank (16 – September) we had a nice cup of tea with the railway security guard, he told us about the best we to get to Dalhousie (HP), we took a rickshaw @ INR 10 (a massive one nothing like I had seen before) to Pathankot bus station, boarded the bus @ 6:40 am paid INR 68 for approx 80 km reached Dalhousie (HP) @ 10:30 am.
THE JOURNEY CONTINUES IN THE NEXT BLOG
